New Rail Link to Ease Travel to and from Prague Airport by 2030

The journey time from Prague city center to Václav Havel Airport will be reduced from around 40 minutes to just 25 minutes

Starting in 2030, travel between Prague’s city center and Václav Havel Airport Prague will become significantly faster and more convenient. Trains will stop at a total of nine stations along the route, enhancing accessibility for travelers. A private construction company should build the line from Prague-Veleslavín railway station to the airport. According to the Ministry of Transport, the tender for this project is set to begin this year.

As reported by ČT24, the journey time from Prague city center to the airport will be cut to 25 minutes. Certain sections of the route will run underground, ensuring a faster and smoother connection.

A key component of the project is the modernization of Masaryk Station, which will serve as the starting point for airport-bound trains. The station is currently undergoing extensive remodeling, including the addition of a new platform above the tracks, extra tracks, and new green spaces. Once completed, trains will depart every ten minutes.

The Prague-Bubny railway station is also being expanded, and it will eventually match the size of Prague’s main station. Two new tracks are being constructed toward Dejvice, and two more are being added toward Kralupy, with work expected to be finished next year. Additionally, a new stop is under construction at the Praha Výstaviště exhibition center.

Currently, traveling to the airport is more cumbersome. The journey via Náměstí Republiky metro station takes about 40 minutes and involves a transfer with the metro and a trolleybus.

However, the new line will not end at the airport, but will continue to Kladno in order to improve the city’s connection to Prague. The estimated cost of the entire project is around 28 billion crowns.
