From October 15 to 20, 2024, the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague will host the second ART*VR Festival. Featuring an exciting lineup of over thirty virtual reality experiences, the festival offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative projects and engage directly with the creative minds behind them.
Titled “Under the Glass Ceiling,” this year’s festival theme delves into the representation and impact of women in the realm of virtual reality. As the largest festival of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, it will showcase more than 15 competitive projects alongside 12 thematic contributions. Many of these works have already received international acclaim at prestigious festivals, with several making their world premieres at DOX.
Festival director Ondřej Moravec highlights the diversity of the submitted projects: “From mixed-reality formats to complex installations designed for multiple participants, we are thrilled to present one-third more projects than last year.”
Accompanying the festival is the Zip-Scene conference, running from October 17 to 19. This event will bring together over 40 international experts to discuss whether interactive storytelling in digital formats can lead to a state of deep listening.
A special highlight of the festival is its programme for students, which will tackle important issues such as mental health, the climate crisis, and the role of women in society.
The festival’s competition section will feature the fifteen most significant VR projects from the past year, awarding four prizes, including the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The thematic section “Under the Glass Ceiling” will provide insights into works by female creators exploring issues of physicality and gender inequalities.
