Prague Ring Road to Be Extended by 12 Kilometres

Construction work on a 12.6-kilometre south-eastern section of the Prague Ring Road, from Běchovice to the D1, will begin in mid-December

A new section is being added to the Prague Ring Road D0 (Pražský okruh): a 12.6-kilometre extension from Běchovice to the D1, which will significantly relieve traffic in the east of the capital. Completion is expected by the end of 2027.

“The new section will include two tunnels, nineteen bridges, and sixteen noise barriers with a total length of eight kilometres. The new connection to the D1 to Brno, the D11 to Hradec Králové, and the D5 to Plzeň will relieve congestion on the busy roads in the eastern part of Prague, especially in the Spořilov area,” explains Transport Minister Martin Kupka.

According to calculations by the Czech Road and Motorway Administration (ŘSD), 70,000 to 80,000 vehicles are expected to use this section daily by 2030. Currently, the average traffic volume on the D0 is around 60,000 vehicles per day, with freight traffic accounting for up to 40 per cent.

The contract for this construction project was awarded to EUROVIA CZ, Stavby mostů, PORR, and PORR Bau. The costs amount to around 10 billion crowns. Construction work is scheduled to begin in December this year and will take approximately three years.

The construction of the Prague Ring Road is divided into eleven sections, seven of which are already in operation. The first section was opened in 1983. The motorway was last extended in 2010, when the section from the D1 to the D5 was completed.
