The city of Prague is ranked 33rd in the latest World’s Best Cities Report 2024 by Resonance Consultancy. The Czech capital impresses with its attractions, nightlife, and other remarkable advantages.
Every year, the company analyses more than 270 cities with at least one million inhabitants to determine the Top 100. It combines quantitative data, qualitative ratings, and recommendations from locals and visitors on platforms such as TripAdvisor and Facebook. Three key factors are central to the assessment: quality of life, friendliness, and prosperity.
So, where is the best city in the world 2024? The answer is London, aptly labelled the “capital of capitals.” The storied UK metropolis, once again reigns supreme in the World’s Best Cities ranking, securing the top spot for the 10th year in a row. Navigating the complexities of a post-Brexit era, geopolitical uncertainties and economic challenges, London’s resilient spirit and unmatched global appeal have solidified its place at the pinnacle of our annual ranking.
New York follows in second place. The vibrant US metropolis overtakes Paris this year to take the top spot among American cities. Paris, the French capital, ranks third.
Prague: Focus on Locals and Sustainable Tourism
The pandemic put an end to the wave of overtourism that had previously swept through Prague’s fascinating Gothic streets. This allowed the city to reorient its policies to prioritise the needs of its residents. According to this year’s report, city leaders have made sustainable decisions over the past two years to ensure that Prague’s museums—ranked fourth in the world (ahead of cities such as New York, Berlin, and Rome)—and attractions, rivalled only by London and Tokyo, remain accessible to citizens.
Prague’s Náplavka on the Vltava River has been transformed into an open-air stage and a centre for art and culture, reminiscent of the atmosphere of Paris. The riverside promenades, with their former ice reservoirs embedded in the river’s retaining walls, have been revitalised as lively urban markets and a series of pop-up bars.
Prague’s compact, fairytale-like Old Town enchants visitors with its centuries-old cobbled streets and the Prague Castle on the hill, which has been completely renovated. Adjacent to it is Salm Castle, now serving as an exhibition space for the National Gallery. The baroque Clam-Gallas Palace in the Old Town has also been reopened and awaits admiration.
Prague’s economy is booming. The city attracts young talent and billions in foreign investment thanks to its four universities, relatively affordable cost of living, and nightlife (ranked third globally). From property developers to global corporations such as Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle, many companies are choosing Prague as a business hub.
