In 2024, significant progress was made in enhancing the user-friendliness of public transport in Prague. The ‘Čitelná Praha’ project aims to further optimise navigation within the transport network through digital innovations and improved information systems. With the addition of numerous new digital boards and mobile applications, the city is making its transport infrastructure even more accessible.
Last year, the standardised information and navigation system Čitelná Praha, also known as ‘Legible Prague,’ was further developed. Notably, there was a significant increase in the number of digital information boards at key public transport stops, managed by ROPID (Regional Organiser of Prague Public Transport). These improvements are designed to make navigating Prague’s public transport network more intuitive and user-friendly.
Steps taken in 2024 include the installation of 30 individual departure boards at key tram and bus stops. Additionally, 45 new departure boards were added in new bus shelters, and large departure screens were introduced at Masaryk Station. Furthermore, metro diagrams within carriages were enhanced, and new obelisks for pedestrian navigation were installed at Wenceslas Square, Palmovka, Štvanice, Strossmayer Square, and the Trade Fair Palace.
The project will continue to expand in 2025. The totems and elements highlighting individual metro and railway stations will be gradually introduced at more locations. Another goal is to replace the ‘lenses’ (information boards at the stops) with digital display boards.
“In 2025, we will also gradually develop the PID Lítačka mobile application, which plays a central role in traffic navigation within the entire PID system. We plan to expand and enhance its functions,” explains ROPID spokesperson Filip Drápal. Another objective is to extend the new information systems to the Central Bohemian Region.
The project is being carried out in close collaboration with various partners, including the transport authorities of Prague, the Institute for Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague, the Central Bohemian Region, and the railway administration.
The overall goal of these measures is to make public transport in Prague and the surrounding region even more user-friendly and accessible for all passengers.
