Despite numerous challenges, domestic car manufacturers increased production by 3.9% in 2024, reaching a historic record of 1,452,881 vehicles produced. Cars with electric drive accounted for 7.8% of the total production.
A total of 1,452,881 vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic in 2024, representing a 3.9% increase compared to 2023. Over 93% of the vehicles produced (1,350,958 units) were exported, marking a 4.5% rise compared to the previous year. The domestic market absorbed 101,923 vehicles, accounting for 7% of total production. In contrast to exports, domestic sales fell by 3.5%. Between January and December, 151,162 electric vehicles were produced, making up 10.4% of total production.
The largest domestic car manufacturer, Škoda Auto, which accounts for 61.7% of all car production in the Czech Republic, produced 896,933 vehicles in its Czech factories in 2024 (+3.7%). On the domestic market, 84,476 vehicles (9.4%) were sold, while 812,457 vehicles (90.6%) were exported. In Mladá Boleslav, 96,534 electric vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) were manufactured, accounting for 10.8% of Škoda’s total production. This included 79,932 pure electric vehicles and 16,602 plug-in hybrids.
At Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech in Nošovice, a total of 330,890 vehicles were produced in 2024, marking a 2.8% decline compared to 2023. Of the total production, 33,300 vehicles were pure electric cars and 21,328 plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicles made up 16.5% of overall brand production in Nošovice. Over 95% (316,066 units) of the vehicles produced were exported, while 14,824 vehicles (5%) were sold on the Czech market. The South Korean brand’s share of total car production in the Czech Republic stood at 22.8%.
At Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Kolín, a total of 225,058 vehicles were assembled in 2024, an increase of 32,631 vehicles (+17%) compared to the same period in 2023. The previous year had been marked by several production stoppages due to delays in component deliveries, particularly in the spring and summer. The manufacturer from Kolín accounted for 15.5% of total car production in the Czech Republic, with half of its production consisting of the hybrid model Yaris HEV.
“Despite deteriorating conditions – whether unstable supply chains, the negative effects of geopolitical conflicts, slow economic growth, or persistently high energy prices – the automotive industry achieved extraordinary results in 2024. Total car production in the Czech Republic rose by 3.9% year-on-year to a historically record-breaking volume of 1,452,881 vehicles. These figures are a clear indication that the Czech automotive industry continues to be a cornerstone of both the domestic and European economy,” said Martin Jahn, President of the Automotive Industry Association.
Bus production in the Czech Republic saw a slight decline compared to the previous year, mainly due to order-based manufacturing. In 2024, a total of 4,489 buses were produced, 764 fewer (-14.5%) than in 2023.
In the truck sector, Tatra Trucks, the only member of the Automotive Industry Association producing trucks, experienced another successful year. Production increased by 90 vehicles (+6.3%), reaching a total of 1,522 trucks. Production from the Kopřivnice brand was split between exports (969 vehicles) and domestic sales, with 579 vehicles designated for the Czech market.
The traditional motorcycle manufacturer Jawa Moto saw an increase in production of 154 motorcycles (+20.4%). Between January and December 2024, a total of 909 motorcycles of the Czech brand rolled off the production line. Of these, 478 units (52.6%) were exported, while 431 units (47.4%) were sold in the Czech Republic.
