Survey: Majority of Czechs Currently Satisfied with Their Lives

Compared to the last survey in summer 2024, overall life satisfaction has remained statistically unchanged

A recent survey by the Centre for Public Opinion Research (CVVM) shows that most Czechs are satisfied with their lives. In particular, educated, affluent, and politically right-leaning individuals tend to rate their quality of life more positively.

According to the survey, 17% of respondents described themselves as “very satisfied,” while 58% said they were “rather satisfied.” Around 17% chose “neither satisfied nor dissatisfied,” and fewer than 10% (8%) reported dissatisfaction with their current life situation.

Life satisfaction tends to increase with higher education levels, greater household income, a positive self-assessment of quality of life, a favorable perception of the Czech economy, and satisfaction with the political situation. Conversely, satisfaction decreases with age. Politically, those who identify further to the right on the left-right spectrum report higher satisfaction. Voters of the SPOLU coalition tend to be more content, whereas supporters of SPD or ANO are more likely to express dissatisfaction.

Regarding occupation, professionals, managers, and students report higher satisfaction, while the unemployed, pensioners, and unskilled or semi-skilled workers are more likely to feel dissatisfied. In terms of location, residents of villages and small towns (up to 2,000 inhabitants) and larger cities (50,000 to 200,000 inhabitants) report higher satisfaction. In contrast, people living in towns with 2,000 to 5,000 inhabitants tend to be less satisfied. Regionally, satisfaction is highest in South West Bohemia (South Bohemia and Pilsen regions), Central Bohemia, Pardubice, and Olomouc. It is lower in Karlovy Vary, Zlín, and Moravian Silesia.

While life satisfaction has not changed significantly since the last survey in summer 2024, a longer-term comparison shows a slight increase compared to late 2023 and early 2024, when fewer people reported being satisfied, and more felt neutral. By the second half of 2024, life satisfaction in the Czech Republic had returned to levels seen in 2022 and early 2023.

The CVVM conducted the survey between 12 September and 28 November, interviewing approximately 1,000 people aged 15 and over.
