Speed Marathon 2025: Citizens Can Help Police Target Speeding Hotspots

The aim of the campaign is to reduce the number of road accidents in the Czech Republic and improve road safety

Until 18 March, residents of the Czech Republic can suggest locations where the police should carry out speed checks. The initiative aims to decrease the number of road accidents in the country and enhance road safety.

The Czech Republic is once again launching an initiative to help improve road safety. Until 18 March, citizens can report locations where the police should conduct speed checks. The Speed Marathon 2025 itself will take place on 9 April 2025.

How Does the Speed Marathon Work?

To suggest a location for a speed check, citizens can visit the website bezpecnecesty.cz (Safe Travelling). There, they can mark places on a map where they believe drivers frequently exceed speed limits. These may include roads near schools, unclear sections, or other hazardous areas.

The police will carry out speed checks throughout the day at these and other locations, selected based on their road safety analyses. By involving the public in choosing checkpoints, the police hope drivers will adhere more closely to speed limits, thereby improving overall road safety.

The aim of the Speed Marathon is not only to reduce the number of road accidents in the Czech Republic but also to raise awareness of the importance of speed limits. At the same time, the initiative seeks to strengthen co-operation between the police and the public.
