In the fourth quarter of 2024, the average gross monthly wage in the Czech Republic rose by 7.2% in nominal terms and by 4.2% in real terms compared to the same period in the previous year. The median wage stood at CZK 41,739.
‘In the fourth quarter of 2024, the average monthly gross nominal wage per capita increased by 7.2% to CZK 49,229 compared to the same period in the previous year. Adjusted for inflation, wages rose by 4.2% in real terms. Over the whole of 2024, inflation stood at 2.4%, while the nominal wage increase reached 7.1%. This means that wages grew by 4.6% in real terms,’ said Jitka Erhartová, Head of the Labour Statistics Department at the Czech Statistical Office.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the average monthly gross nominal wage for the adjusted number of employees in the national economy was CZK 49,229, representing an increase of CZK 3,322 (7.2%) compared to the same period in 2023. Consumer prices rose by 2.9% during this time, resulting in a real wage increase of 4.2%. The total volume of wages and salaries grew by 7.4%, while the number of employees increased by 0.1%.
Compared to the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted wage growth in the fourth quarter of 2024 was 1.7%.
Across different sectors (CZ-NACE classifications), the highest average wage growth compared to the same period in 2023 was recorded in real estate activities (16.0%), professional, scientific and technical activities (12.2%), and accommodation and food service activities (10.3%). The lowest growth was seen in mining and quarrying (1.2%), public administration and defence, including social security (2.3%), and education (2.3%).
The median wage (CZK 41,739) increased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year, reaching CZK 45,004 for men and CZK 38,643 for women. Eighty per cent of employees earned between CZK 21,577 and CZK 80,431.
In 2024 as a whole, the average wage was CZK 46,165, representing an increase of CZK 3,044 (7.1%) compared to the previous year. Consumer prices rose by 2.4% during this period, meaning that wages increased by 4.6% in real terms.
