Celebrating like in Ireland: St Patrick’s Day 2025 in Prague

Live music and Guinness beer galore

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Monday this year. 17 March is a public holiday in Ireland and Northern Ireland in honour of Patrick of Ireland, the country’s first Christian missionary. Originally a church festival, it has since developed into a colourful folk celebration and is now also celebrated by non-Irish people around the world. Many expats and locals also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Prague.

A great Irish pub that is popular with both locals and expats is the James Joyce, the oldest Irish pub in Prague. The celebrations start on Monday, 17 March, from 11:00, with lots of delicious Guinness, fun, entertainment, and music throughout the day. However, the weekend programme is already jam-packed: the Six Nations Rugby Tournament runs on Saturday and Sunday, and there’s also live music on Sunday evening – so plenty of time to get into the Irish spirit!

A newcomer among Prague’s Irish pubs is Gabby’s Irish Pub. Located in the city centre, not far from Národní třída, this pub is particularly popular with tourists. A lively atmosphere, drink specials, and more await guests on St. Patrick’s Day, 17 March. If you’re planning a pub crawl on St. Patrick’s Day in Prague, a stop at Gabby’s is a must!

4 pubs, 1 festival: The St. Patrick’s Festival Prague, organised by four well-known Irish pubs in Prague, starts this year on Thursday, 13 March, and runs until Monday, 17 March. Among them are Rocky O’Reilly’s, Durty Nelly’s, McCarthy’s, and WAXY MALONE’S (formerly Caffrey’s). No green river, but plenty of Guinness, live music, and Irish exuberance…

On the other side of the Vltava, in Prague’s Lesser Town, you will find J.J. Murphy’s Irish Pub. Here, too, you can savour the Irish barley juice of Arthur Guinness, who was the first to produce the legendary dark beer and founded the world-famous Guinness brewery in 1759.

The Czech-Irish Business and Cultural Association (CIBCA) is organising a St. Patrick’s Day Festival for the first time, with a weekend full of Irish culture, music, and fun! Experience an unforgettable two-day festival with exciting events – from a lively parade through the city centre to family-friendly activities, traditional Irish dancing, and a glamorous Gala Dinner & Casino Night. Whether you’re Irish, love Irish culture, or just want to experience the famous craic, this festival is for you!
