Czech Car Production in Q1 2025: Drop in Passenger Cars, Surge in Electric Vehicles

Almost 93% of all cars produced were exported

In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 372,334 road vehicles were produced in the Czech automotive industry, marking a 7% decrease compared to the same period last year. Passenger cars made up the largest share of production. However, there was a positive trend in the production of electric vehicles, with output more than doubling compared to the previous year.

In this quarter, 366,510 passenger cars were produced in the Czech Republic, a decrease of 7.1% compared to the same period last year. During this time, 64,956 electric vehicles were produced, accounting for 17.7% of domestic car production. Almost 93% of all cars produced (340,354 units) were exported. However, vehicle exports fell by 8.3% compared to the previous year.

“Despite the overall lower production figures in the first quarter, which align with the gradual increase in registration numbers for new vehicles across key European markets, March was a record month for electric vehicle production in the Czech Republic. The introduction of new models, such as the Škoda Elroq and the updated Enyaq, consistently generates market and customer interest, which is reflected in the production statistics,” said Martin Jahn, President of the Association of the Automotive Industry.

Škoda Auto, the largest Czech car manufacturer, produced 236,524 passenger cars (-2.8%) in its Czech plants from January to March. A total of 22,016 vehicles (+18.1%) were sold on the domestic market, while 214,508 vehicles (-4.5%) were sold abroad. In the electric vehicle segment, the company recorded a nearly 282% increase compared to the previous year.

Production at Hyundai’s Nošovice plant fell by 18%. Hyundai produced a total of 71,540 vehicles in the first quarter. Toyota experienced a 8.6% drop in production during the same period, with a total of 58,446 passenger cars produced at its plant in Kolín.

In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 1,321 buses were produced in the Czech Republic, marking an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year. While domestic production fell significantly by 43.5% to 104 buses, exports rose by 6.9% to 1,230 buses.

In the truck segment, Tatra Trucks produced 277 vehicles, reflecting a decrease of 31.6%. This decline is primarily due to the increased demand for truck models for special applications.

In the motorcycle segment, Jawa reported production of 169 units, which corresponds to a decline of 29.9%. Exports of motorcycles were also significantly impacted, with a drop of 42.7%.
