The modernisation of the railway lines in the Central Bohemian Region is progressing. The railway authority resumed operations between Kladno and Kladno-Ostrovec at the end of July. Initially, only one track is in use, but double-track operation will begin in less than a month. This section of the railway is part of the project to modernise the Prague – Airport – Kladno route.
The modernisation of the section from Kladno to Kladno-Ostrovec began in November 2022 and is currently about two-thirds complete. Workers have renovated the track bed and track superstructure and constructed new bridges, all of which are prepared for the installation of a second track.
In mid-May, the road underpass on Petra-Bezruč Street in Kladno, replacing the previous level crossing, was also put into operation. At Kladno station, two new platforms are already in use.
Passengers can expect further improvements from 20 August, when double-track operation will commence along the entire modernised section. By the end of the summer holidays, the lifts to both platforms at Kladno město stop will also be operational.
As part of the construction works, the level crossing on Wolkerova Street will be replaced by an underpass. The new pedestrian tunnel at Kladno station is expected to be completed by mid-next year. Work on the new station building and the entire forecourt, including the P+R car park, will continue until the end of 2026. The project also includes the construction of overhead electrification and a power supply station, though these facilities’ commissioning depends on the completion of the modernisation of subsequent sections of Prague-Veleslavín.
The construction works are being carried out by EUROVIA CZ, STRABAG Rail, and Elektrizace železnic Praha. The estimated total cost of the construction is around CZK 4,700,000,000. The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund as part of the Transport Programme 2021–2027.
