The twelfth edition of the Signal Festival, Prague’s annual celebration of digital and creative culture, is set to captivate audiences from 10 to 13 October 2024 with stunning video mappings that will transform two of the city’s historic landmarks: the Archbishop’s Palace and the Municipal Library.
The iconic Archbishop’s Palace on Hradčany Square will be the canvas for Eternal Recurrence, a breathtaking projection by internationally renowned Czech digital artist Filip Hodas.
This ambitious project will highlight the palace’s rococo façade and its historical significance, bringing a new dimension to the 16th-century building. Hodas, who has gained a global following through his viral series Pop Culture Dystopia and collaborations with major brands like Adidas, Apple, and Samsung, is collaborating with Czech DJ and producer Pavel Ridošek, also known as Rido, who will provide the music and sound design for this immersive experience.
Meanwhile, the façade of the Municipal Library on Mariánské náměstí will be transformed by The Rhythm of the Ocean, a video mapping show by the Spanish-Danish visual group Desilence. This creative duo, consisting of Tatiana Halbach and Søren Christensen, will turn the neoclassical library into a wild, oceanic spectacle.
The projection, set to the innovative sounds of electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, will transport viewers beneath the ocean’s surface, exploring the dynamic rhythms that maintain our planet’s climatic balance. Ciani, a five-time Grammy nominee and the first woman to receive the prestigious Moog Innovation Award, is celebrated for her pioneering work in electronic and synthetic music.
Festival director Martin Pošta expressed his excitement about this year’s programme, highlighting the international acclaim of the artists involved. “Filip Hodas has become one of the most followed Czech artists globally, and the work of Desilence is a profound tribute to both painting and movement,” Pošta said. “Their collaboration with Suzanne Ciani, one of the most brilliant minds in contemporary music, promises a truly unique experience for Prague.”
In addition to these visual spectacles, the 2024 edition of Signal Festival will introduce a new platform for education and networking, the Signal Forum conference. Set to take place on 11 and 12 October at Prague’s CAMP, the conference will bring together leading figures in art, science, and technology. Notable speakers include NASA astrobiologist Michaela Musilová, CERN expert Ariane Koetek, and the creative studio Superbien, known for their video mapping of the Empire State Building in New York. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Slovak festival Sensorium, aims to explore the latest trends and innovations shaping the 21st century.
Signal Festival 2024 will also feature an extensive gallery zone, offering attendees a deeper dive into the world of light design, visual and digital art, artificial intelligence, and conceptual art. This year’s theme, Ecosystems 02: Quest, invites artists and audiences alike to explore the search for balance in an age dominated by technology and geopolitical challenges.
